Objectives:
Vocabulary
acquisition ; Work on the idea of metaphor in literature
Outline:
1 -
Students discover La Carte du Tendre de Mlle de Scudery, a map designed
in the XVIIth century. It depicts the whole range of feelings between
Love and Hate as if they were actually the different parts of a
country. (Approaches to Learning - mapping - Geography)
2 - They look for the words they don't know in a language dictionary
: what is "Le lac d'Indifference ", what means "La
montagne d'Orgueil" or Le bourg de Billet doux for instance.
3 -
We practice this new vocabulary in various sentences and contexts
in order to complete a vocabulary list : given a name traced on
the map, for example, what is the verb/the adjective/the adverb
related to it. We also review the following topics in French : moves,
travel, locations, means of transportation... (Approaches to Learning
; Geography)
4 -
The students can now practice by mapping and telling their own "journey
through feelings". The result is both a graphic and a creative
writing.. The possible combinations are almost unlimited. (Homo
Faber)
5 -
We discuss the notion of metaphor in literature in relation with
this last task.
We also discuss the importance for everyone to be able to express
feelings in a proper way. We understand that feelings are complex
and hard to define. We try to point out the necessity for the members
of a community to exchange feelings ( Health and Society)
